  1. Your surgery is scheduled:
Your doctor has discussed your need for surgery with you. Your surgery is now scheduled at the Salina Surgical Hospital. Our facility is dedicated to serving the elective surgical patient.

  2. Pre-Admission Services:
You may be scheduled for an appointment with our Admissions Nurse, or our nurse will attempt to reach you by telephone. If you have not been contacted, please call (785) 827-0610 ext. 112 as soon as possible. This process must be completed before your surgery or your surgery may be delayed.

  3. Registration:
To Pre-Register: Please visit with our personnel at the Registration Desk at the Main Entrance. They will assist you in completing the financial and insurance documents that will facilitate submitting your claim to your insurance company. Please bring your health insurance cards, driver’s license and social security card with you. The registration staff may try to reach you ahead of time. If you have Advanced Directive/Living Will please bring a copy with you.

  4. The Day of Surgery:
When you arrive at the hospital, stop at the Registration Desk to notify them you have arrived.

  5. Admission:
You will be escorted to the Surgery Pre-operative Area where you will be made ready for your surgery. A member of our anesthesia team will visit with you before surgery. A parent/legal guardian must accompany patients under 18 years of age, or patients who cannot sign their own consents.

  6. Your Surgery:
A member of your family or a friend may stay with you until you are taken to the Operating Room Suite. Family or friends may wait in our Family Lobby Area.

  7. Your Recovery:
When your surgery is over, you may spend time in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (P.A.C.U.). You will then transfer to Phase II Recovery or to a private Inpatient Room if you require a longer recovery period. Your family member or friend may accompany you to either area. Outpatients are usually released to home with an escort within two (2) hours after they arrive in Phase II Recovery.

  8. In-Patient Recovery:
Salina Surgical Hospital has sixteen (16) private In-Patient Rooms for overnight recovery stays. If your physician has planned an overnight stay for you, please bring the following items:
    • Toiletries, e.g. comb, brush, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.
    • Robe
    • Slippers
    • Any necessary medical equipment e.g. CPAP, Nebulizers, etc.
    • All current prescription and non-prescription medications in their original containers, including insulin drugs (refrigeration is available).
    • All children under 12 must have an adult guardian with them at night.

  9. Going Home:
Before you leave, your nurse will give you home care instructions. If you are an outpatient, you should remain close to the Salina Surgical Hospital or have medical care available for 8 to 12 hours after going home, in case a medical emergency should arise.

  10. Follow-Up:
If you are an outpatient, the day after your surgery, a nurse will call to check on you and answer any questions you have. If you need to speak to a nurse sooner, please call the Peri-Operative Department at (785) 827-0610 between the hours of 6 am-7 pm or the Inpatient Unit after 7 pm at (785) 827-7315.
